volunteerMany people may ask, “Why should I become a volunteer?” They may think because they are not part of a group or organization that they cannot become a volunteer. Some people may think one person cannot make a difference, while others simply may not know how to become a volunteer.

Why should you become a volunteer? Volunteer work of any kind can be very rewarding, but volunteer work at a nursing home can become so much more. Residents in a nursing home are our Veterans, our grandparents, and our history. You can learn from them as well as they can learn from you.

Can I give my time if I am not part of a group or organization? Groups and organizations are wonderful volunteers.  They can vary from church groups to boy/girls scout troops, to school organizations. However, you do not have to be part of a group or organization to become a volunteer. Individuals can come in to volunteer as well. Can you make a difference if you are an individual volunteering? Absolutely! Volunteers can be a helping hand to the activity aides doing the daily task or helping with an event. Some residents tend to shy away from large group activities and would prefer to have an individual to spend time with just one on one. You do not need a special talent to become a volunteer you just need to give your time.

How do you become a get started? Well, that is the easy part! All you need to do is contact the activities department and we can get you started. There is an application and background check that we will happily process for you free of charge. Please do not hesitate to call with any further questions and let’s get you started on a very fulfilling journey of volunteer work today.
